Striving Artists' 8th annual Shakespeare in the Park production!
Directed by Jeremy Funke and Greg Luzitano
Join us this summer for a very special production of Shakespeare's masterful Henry cycle. Consisting of material from Richard II, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2, and Henry V, The Henriad is Shakespeare's first epic tetralogy. As King Henry IV nears the end of his reign, heir to the throne Prince Hal spends his time carousing with Falstaff and his other drunken friends at Mistress Quickly's tavern. But when a rival to the throne plans an uprising, Prince Hal needs to face his responsibilities and protect his country in battle. An extraordinary coming-of-age story, The Henriad follows Prince Hal from his wasted youth through his struggles to make his father proud to his eventual kingship and remarkable leadership on the field of battle against France.
This production will be performed in two pieces, with the first half performed on the first two Saturdays, the second half performed on the first two Sundays. At Merrimack, the first half will be performed on Friday (evening) and the second half on Saturday (afternoon). The entire production, consisting of both halves, will be performed back-to-back at Merrimack on Sunday. Beverly and Fall River will be outdoors, Merrimack will be indoors.
The audience need not see part one in order to enjoy part two, and vice versa.
CASTING WILL BE ENTIRELY GENDER-BLIND. We will employ double-casting (or even triple/quadruple-casting). This will ensure that any friends and family members who wish to see a particular performer will be able to attend any performance without fear that the actor they wish to see isn't featured in that day's performance.
Auditions will take place May 15 from 7:00-9:00, with callbacks (and pre-arranged additional auditions) on May 18 from 7:00-9:00. Interested actors unable to attend the given dates should email firstname.lastname@example.org for an appointment. Please include a headshot and resume, if available.
Please prepare a 2-3 minute Shakespearean or classical monologue. The monologue need not be memorized, but MUST be prepared. We may also ask you to do a cold-reading from the play. Please bring a headshot, resume, and a list of conflicts during May, June, July.
Rehearsals will begin the week of May 27th. Rehearsals to be held primarily on Monday-Thursday evenings at the First Church in Salem, MA. Some additional Sunday evening rehearsals may be added as needed, with sufficient notice provided.
Any questions at all, please email email@example.com or post on this event page.
